Getting To Know “You”

KNOWING WHO YOU ARE

IS THE FIRST STEP TO KNOWING HOW TO VALUE YOURSELF,
AND TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE
OF ABSTAINING FROM SEXUAL SIN

Often, I interact with people (even Christians) who think that the bodies they live in define who they are as a human being.  As a result, they view everything else in life through that limited prism.  I constantly find myself emphasizing the importance of knowing who you really are in order to really get into the game of life.  Some people get it but others don’t, which is understandable because non-Believers are still struggling with the acceptance of “God.”  Consequently I focus on Christians, (as I am in this piece), in hopes that I can help unlock revelation to someone who is ready to progress in the things of God.

With that said, let me start in Genesis 2:7, where the Bible teaches us that ” . . . the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”  In Isaiah 44:2-3 (after Adam and Eve) the Word proclaims, “[t]hus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.”  We also learn from Acts 17:28 that “in Him [the Lord] we live, and move, and have our being, . . . for we are also his offspring.”  Given this, if you believe that the Bible is the Word of God, it should be clear to you that God created mankind as a living soul (or spirit) who He encased in a physical body that He formed.  The body is simply the medium through which our spirit being – the real man – interacts with God and the world around us.

As a result of Adam and Eve’s decision to disobey God’s command (remember – they were both punished), man was separated from God’s Spirit because man’s spirit was now tainted with a sin nature that was totally contrary to God’s Holy Nature.  Consequently man, still a spirit being, was separated from God.  God’s final rectification of that was through His Son Jesus Christ and the work Jesus did on the Cross.  By acceptance of His redemption and through His Blood, salvation became available to mankind which allowed man’s spirit to be rejoined to the Spirit of God.  This is a free gift available to all – many have received this gift – but others have not (yet).  We Believers pray that they will.

The tragedy for Christians, however, is that if you don’t understand your ONENESS with the Spirit of God, your spiritual growth can be stunted.  Knowing who you are and why you’re so important to God changes your total outlook on why God interacts with you; how you receive from God; how to really be intimate with God through worship; your expectations of prayer; and finally, the manifestation of your faith.

God’s gift of life, His Spirit upon us and in us, and the Blood of Jesus covering us spiritually is what makes us Christians so awesome and such a threat against Satan.  Like it says in Psalm 139:14, “I will praise thee [Lord]; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

For those who have been reunited with the Spirit of God, we have to guard against sins that can break that bond once again.

Fornication is one of those sins that the Bible teaches is the ONLY sin that man can do against his/her own body, as noted in 1 Corinthians 6:16-18 which says:

16  What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

17  But he that is joined unto the Lord is ONE SPIRIT.

18  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

WOW!!!  THE ONLY SIN
THAT MAN DOES AGAINST HIS OWN BODY!!!

That should be food for thought for a week!!

When you know who you REALLY are and how you connect with the Spirit of God, then you will understand the importance of deciding against fornication.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”  (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Let’s touch on abortion briefly and take this realization to a deeper level.  Our bodies are the temple of the Only Living God, and we were created to serve and worship God.  God said that He would supply our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).  So, the more worshipers you have the greater the glory – the greater the glory - the greater the supply and fewer are the needs of mankind due to the Glorious Presence and interaction with the Spirit of God.  We are in a battle and the more soldiers you have the greater chances are you will win in war.  Once again, not understanding the role our bodies play in God’s plan opens the door to the diabolical plot of the enemy that, through abortion, is to eliminate all potential temples and diminish the force against evil.  Think about it!

I write this to hopefully generate deeper levels of thinking that will ultimately remind all of us why it’s so important to be in it to win it.  Satan is!
